I would be interested if there are established usage scenarios, perhaps with a proven tool stack. In my perception every major supplier claims data products as it‘s playing field, but it is a big step from colourful websites to impactful implementations…
It is for sure a big step. Data Mesh is not just data products, even if this is a central concept. On the one hand, data products make a career on it's own today, independently from Data Mesh. Many vendors just wrap a frame around tables and views, give a description and call that data product. But from what I see, it is evolving.
As on the other hand Data Mesh is more than technology, it is not just the tool stack. But in the market I see especially Snowflake, Databricks and open source approaches realizing Data Mesh today. They frame data products, can separate resources like workload and are strong with data sharing. Additionally we see an own tool category supporting the data product case like One Data, The Modern Data Company, Witboost and Nextdata now. Additionally there is a lot of momentum in the data marketplace category. Pillars like domain-oriented ownership is an important organizational aspect to be considered beyond the tool stack, as data product thinking is.
Nice summary of where data mesh is today and how to apply it, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the great summary!
